World Test Championship final shifted to Southampton from Lord’s: Reports
As per the latest reports, the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) between India and New Zealand will be played at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Earlier the final was slated to be played at Lord’s. The final will be played from June 18 to 22. June 23 has been kept as the reserve day.
Speaking to ANI, BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla confirmed the news. "Yes, the final will be played in Southampton keeping an eye on the COVID situation," he said.
Last week on Saturday, India roared into the final of the World Test Championship after thrashing England 3-1 in the Test series. The win helped Virat Kohli’s men finish the top of the table, as they ended with 72.2 percentage points in the championship.
At the time of writing, the reason for shifting the venue could be ascertained. However, those close to the development believe that a spike in COVID-19 cases in London could be a reason for shifting the venue. As the venue in Southampton is better suited for maintaining the bio-bubble with a hotel in the stadium premises.
