What’s the purse remaining with the teams for IPL 2022 Auction?

Last night came aflame with several debates and nods of approval as the IPL teams announced their retentions before plunging into the mega-auctions of 2022. 

After careful consideration and detailed planning, the teams were happy to announce the core around which they would have liked to build their squad.

As the retentions were announced, one of the most asked questions on the internet was the remaining purse value of each team as that would further sketch a brief vignette around the team’s plans of the about-to-come purchases.

Royal Challengers Bangalore – Rs 57 crore

RCB retained their former captain, Virat Kohli as the first player for a sum of Rs 15 crore. Their second retention was Australian hard-hitter, Glenn Maxwell who came at a price of Rs 11 crore while Mohammed Siraj was the team’s final retention who came at a price of Rs 7 crore. The cumulative cost of the three players was Rs 33 crore. They would be coming to the auction with a purse of Rs 57 crore.

Delhi Capitals – Rs 47.5 crore

The sublime Capitals went for four retentions as they stuck with Rishabh Pant for a staggering Rs 16 crore, Prithvi Shaw for Rs 7.5 crore, Anrich Nortje for Rs 6.5 crore and Axar Patel for Rs 9 crore. The franchise had to let go of formidable monikers in the form of Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada, Avesh Khan and Shikhar Dhawan. They would be arriving at the auctions with a purse of Rs 47.5 crore.

Kolkata Knight Riders – Rs 48 crore

The Knights are banking heavily upon their heavy artillery to deliver the goods as they retained Caribbean muscle man, Andre Russell for his destructive ability. He was retained for a price of Rs 12 crore. There were three other retentions too where the Knights went for the southpaw, Venkatesh Iyer for a price of Rs 8 crore, their mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy for a price of Rs 8 crore and the West Indian veteran, Sunil Narine for a sum of Rs 6 crore. They will be coming to the auction with a balance of Rs 48 crore.

Chennai Super Kings – Rs 48 crore

The reigning champions retained four of their star players in the form of Ravindra Jadeja at a price of Rs 16 crore, MS Dhoni for a price of Rs 12 crore, English all-rounder, Moeen Ali for an amount of Rs 8 crore while opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was kept for a price of Rs 6 crore. They will be looking to build in the auction with a balance of Rs 48 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad – Rs 68 crore

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a few major calls to make as they let go of a lot of illustrious stars of the shortest format of the game. David Warner was not on the list while Rashid Khan, arguably the best bowler in the shortest format of the game currently, was released too. They retained the seasoned Kane Williamson for a price of Rs 14 crore while the two other players retained by the franchise were Abdul Samad and Umran Malik who came at a price of Rs 4 crore each. Hence the remaining amount for the Sunrisers will be Rs 68 crore.

Rajasthan Royals – Rs 62 crore

The men in pink had to make a few big calls after repeated failures as they parted ways with English all-rounder, Ben Stokes and premium fast bowler, Jofra Archer. They retained their skipper, Sanju Samson for a staggering Rs 14 crore, English star, Jos Buttler for Rs 10 crore and a young Yashasvi Jaiswal for Rs 4 crore. They will have Rs 62 crores at their disposal when they look forward to the auctions.

Punjab Kings – Rs 72 crore

The team that will be coming to the auction with the most bloated purse is Punjab Kings. They have retained just two of their players as the first one to be retained was their star-opener, Mayank Agarwal who was retained at a price of Rs 12 crore while the second retention of the Kings was a young medium-fast bowler, Arshdeep Singh who was retained at a price of Rs 4 crore. They will be coming to auction with a purse of Rs 72 crore.

Mumbai Indians – Rs 48 crore

The reigning champions chose to retain their most reliable players as they went with their captain, Rohit Sharma for a price of Rs 16 crore, star middle-order batter, Suryakumar Yadav for a price of Rs 8 crore, premium express bowler, Jasprit Bumrah for a price of Rs 12 crore while the West Indian muscle-man, Kieron Pollard was retained for Rs 6 crore. They will be diving into the auction with a balance of Rs 48 crore.
