We were not pleased that we lost two points: Virat Kohli on India being penalised by ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Wednesday that England and India had been penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate during the rain-soaked first Test match in Nottingham.

During the virtual press conference ahead of the second Test match at Lord’s, India captain Virat Kohli spoke about how these points make the difference and why time management is an important aspect. The 32-year-old also explained his displeasure with dropping two crucial points in the first match of the WTC 2021/23 cycle.

"As a team, we were not pleased that we lost two points because of factors that are definitely in our control and we made up quite a few overs at the end. We were short by two overs. But we made up quite a few overs in that second innings," Virat Kohli was quoted as saying during the pre-match virtual press conference.

The points are very, very crucial says, Captain Kohli

"Small little things where we can save 10-15 seconds is really what matters and we practised that in the second innings and we were able to cover up three-odd overs. You don't want to be that far behind of the game that you are not able to catch up and cover your overs and time. The points are very, very crucial,” Kohli added. 

Both the teams have been fined 40% of the match fee and given two demerit points in the World Test Championship (WTC) table. England and India currently have two points and a win percentage of 16.67 each.
