T20 World Cup winners to receive prize money of US $1.6 million
In less than a month’s time, the T20 World Cup will be kickstarting with qualifiers between Sri Lanka and Namibia while the Super 12 will be beginning with a swashbuckling encounter between Australia and New Zealand, the two finalists from the precursor edition of the tournament.
The 16-team tournament will be starting on October 16th that will be featuring two rounds, the first of which will be qualifiers from which the top four teams will be qualifying for the following round where the top 12 will be jousting for supremacy and a semi-final berth.
Group A will be starring Namibia, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and UAE while Group B features West Indies, Scotland, Ireland and Zimbabwe. These eight teams will be a part of the qualifiers and every win in this round will be awarded $40,000. Simultaneously, the ones who will be getting eliminated from the very opening round will also be given an amount of $40000.
In the Super 12 phase where the best teams in the world will be aiming for the following rounds, eight of whom have already been decided including Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa. Of the top 12 teams, only four will be making the cut for the semis.
The eight teams that get knocked out in round 2 get prize money of $70000. The total prize money of the tournament has been fixed at $5.6 million, which literally makes this an extravaganza.
