Peter Siddle urges Big Bash to shorten the window for the league

As the pandemic runs riot, every single cricket tournament has been plagued with the fear of being stalled or postponed. Even the ones that are blooming at their fullest swing are mostly played behind closed doors or with limited audience.

In order to accommodate the residence of the players in a much more comfortable way, requests are being made worldwide to trim down the lengths of the contests.

The latest addition to this list was Peter Siddle’s statement as to why the Big Bash League must be shortened. The fast bowler has urged the administrators to cut down on the length of the tournament.

After being named as the captain of his franchise, the Adelaide Strikers, Siddle was quoted saying, “It's not a hidden fact that it is a bit long. Making it shorter is the key focus. The word from anyone overseas that I chat to is their biggest worry is they don't want to come here for that long and be stuck.”

Out of the long list of departees, Rashid Khan and James Vince have already left for their respective international duties. Siddle believes that the continuous rescheduling of the tournament has proved the point that the schedule can be crunched into a tighter window.

“If you're a shorter tournament, you're probably not losing guys like Rashid Khan, James Vince, Sandeep [Lamichhane]. This year we've had to rearrange games...now we realize that maybe to make this season shorter, we might have to play back-to-back games and do different things," he further added.

Siddle’s Strikers booked a berth against the mighty Sydney Sixers that will be played at the SCG on Wednesday, the winner of which face the Perth Scorchers in the final at the Marvel Stadium.
