BCCI AGM: India's FTP, two new IPL teams on the meeting agenda
08 Dec, 2020 By Editor

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold an all-important Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 24. It is believed that the committee members will be deliberating on a variety of agendas including the induction of two new IPL teams and election of a new vice-president. The post has been left vacant for a long time after Mahim Verma's resignation. It is reported that the choice of electing the vice-president would purely be concordant.

As per the protocols, BCCI has sent a 23-point agenda to all the affiliated state cricket associations three weeks before the meeting. In an interesting turn of events, the board might well induct two teams for the next edition of the Indian Premier League. According to several reports, Adani Group and Sanjiv Goenka's RPG are interested in owning new franchises.

With India set to host the T20 World Cup next year, the focus will largely be centred around the Future Tours Programme (FTP) for 2021. The other important agenda will be the appointment of three national selectors along with a chairman of selectors. "Selection committee is a part of the cricket committee plus the technical committee also needs to be formed. They are all statutory sub-committees," a senior BCCI source was quoted as saying to PTI.

In a bid to raise the standard of umpiring across all age categories, the board will also weigh on establishing the umpires' sub-committee.

Key topics to be discussed in BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM)

  • Induction of two new IPL teams

  • Appointment of Umpires Committee

  • India's Future Tours Programme for 2021

  • Election of a new vice-president

  • Issues related to the National Cricket Academy

  • Update on ICC T20 World Cup 2021
